چکیده

In this work we have designed a novel optical architecture for LED-based LCOS projectors. First we have investigated the available LEDs and characterized them. Further the LED illumination engine with the custom collection system is designed, simulated and manufactured to use them in our novel architecture that is based on two LCOS light valves. This architecture is firstly simulated and optimized by using raytracing software ZEMAX. After testing the several parts of this architecture experimentally, we have built a LED projector demonstrator. The several aspects that is evolved to optimally and efficiently use the available light flux will be discussed.

Two LCOS full color projector with efficient LED illumination engine

LED-based projectors have numerous advantages compared to traditional projectors. They are more compact, exhibit a larger color gamut and a longer lifetime, the supply voltage is lower and they can operate on batteries. However their light output is limited by the low optical power per étendue of the LEDs, although this is also improving constantly. With an efficient illumination engine design ...

Matched-filtering generalized phase contrast using LCoS pico-projectors for beam-forming.

We report on a new beam-forming system for generating high intensity programmable optical spikes using so-called matched-filtering Generalized Phase Contrast (mGPC) applying two consumer handheld pico-projectors. Such a system presents a low-cost alternative for optical trapping and manipulation, optical lattices and other beam-shaping applications usually implemented with high-end spatial ligh...

High speed liquid crystal over silicon display based on the flexoelectro-optic effect.

One of the key technologies to evolve in the displays market in recent years is liquid crystal over silicon (LCOS) microdisplays. Traditional LCOS devices and applications such as rear projection televisions, have been based on intensity modulation electro-optical effects, however, recent developments have shown that multi-level phase modulation from these devices is extremely sought after for ...

The Technology War: LCD vs. DLP

It is important to note there is a third significant light engine technology called LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon). It is developed and marketed by several vendors, most notably Canon, JVC, and Sony. Many excellent projectors have been made with LCoS technology, including several outstanding home theater projectors that can, in the opinion of many observers, surpass the value proposition of b...

LCOS Technology Expands Potential of Color Imaging and Display

As computer and communication devices have miniaturized, a key problem has been capturing and displaying high-quality and high-resolution color images. In 1995, ColorLink, Inc., was created to develop a tunable optical filter technology that would be compatible with a decreased display size while increasing the brightness and clarity of the image. They believed that the next generation of consu...
